potato_chip_rock_(2)-1After working in a variety of positions at many different companies, Mary wanted to find a company where she could stay until retirement, so she decided to be picky. Marsh & McLennan Agency (MMA) matched each of her criteria for the perfect company—MMA offers opportunities to work with positive-minded people, a challenging environment, and is a place where people are genuinely happy to come to work each day. “Management places trust in us, so we feel that we have the authority to serve and support our clients, which is empowering.”

Mary loves the mixture of ages at the firm. “There are 20-somethings and 40-somethings which make it really exciting. I have people with more experience than me to learn from and I also see the excitement the new people bring.” She also values the importance MMA places on work-life balance. “Personal life comes first here, since it’s about a long term path not a short term burn out. If you need anything, MMA is there, which is tremendously important.”

What You Didn’t Know About Mary

During grad school, Mary joined a rock-n-roll cover band as the lead singer. She was with them for 18 months, playing gigs all over the Bay Area. “Covering Pat Benatar was always fun”.

With the push from her active husband and daughter, Mary has become a bit of an adventurist in the past 5 years. So far, she’s gone ice climbing and kayaking near glaciers in Alaska, and zip lining, bungee jumping and waterfall rappelling in Costa Rica. Although she wouldn’t have put these on her bucket list, her family keeps her on her toes with trips all over the world. What’s up next? A hardcore kayaking expedition in Canada and a family trip to Europe so her husband can fulfill his dream of picking up a new BMW from Germany.
