Last week, Marsh & McLennan Agency associates volunteered with one of our 2016 Barney & Barney Foundation Grant Recipients – Girls Inc. Associates had the opportunity to spend some time with Girls Inc. at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in San Leandro and participate in one of their research-based programs. Girls Inc., along with Junior Achievement of Northern California will be honored and awarded grants on Monday, November 7 at the 2016 Bay Area Golf Tournament.

Untitled-2-1.jpgOur associates volunteered for Program Continuum, which provides girls with a high-quality after-school program to equip them with the tools and resources they need to be strong, smart, and bold. During MMA'svolunteer day, associates split into groups and worked hand-in-hand with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.

The 3rd grade volunteer group read stories with the girls, engaging with them to advance their reading comprehension skills. This group also assisted the girls with their homework and spent time with them at recess, playing everything from duck duck goose to a new patty cake game. The 4th and 5th grade volunteer groups lent a hand with the girls’ science projects, helping them put together lessons and develop their presentations. They topped off their day with an energetic game of football.

They were so excited that we were there and asked if we would be coming all the time. It was so hard to say goodbye when it was time to leave. The experience was so heartwarming and made my heart so happy! – Jennifer Christensen, Client Manager II

It felt great to be able to help inspire the girls to become strong, smart, and bold young women. My experience volunteering for Girls, Inc. left me feeling incredibly rewarded, and I plan on volunteering again! – Brittany Foley, Client Manager

It was such a rewarding experience to be able to help the kids with their schoolwork, as well as teach them how to play football. I could really see the emphasis that the program puts on teamwork and inclusiveness. – Greg Hodges, Client Manager
